NOAA Live!

Event Date:

10/27/2020

Description:

Using Sound to Map Alaska's Seafloor with Jessica Murphy and Lieutenant (junior grade) Michelle Levano, NOAA's Office of Coast Survey in Seattle, WA Like marine mammals using sound to "see" their underwater environment, scientists also use sound to determine what the seafloor looks like! Mapping the seafloor provides information for many purposes, including safe navigation of fishing vessels and helping pinpoint where marine animals call home. Join us as we discuss the tools of the trade for mapping the seafloor and the many ways that data is used by scientists for everything from charting the ocean to understanding habitat. The webinar is about 45 minutes with moderated questions and answers throughout. Aimed at grades 2-8, but all ages will enjoy. (Recorded on October 27, 2020) The webinar was also live-streamed on Facebook Live on the NOAA Fisheries Alaska Facebook page - @NOAAFisheriesAK #NOAALiveAlaska #NOAALive4Kids #NOAAat50 #SeaGrantSTEM © Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution
